Australian Government Australian Apprenticeship Incentives
The Australian Government provides a range of financial incentives for employers of apprentices and trainees undertaking Certificate II, III, IV and Diploma level Australian Apprenticeships.
The Australian Apprenticeships Centre (AAC) will assess employers eligibility for incentives and arrange for the issuing of claim forms at the appropriate time to claim the incentives.
*Note: All Australian Government conditions must be met prior to any payments being made.

| COMMENCEMENT(Certificate II) | $1250 | 3 months after the commencement and registration of a certificate II traineeship. |
| COMMENCEMENT(Certificate III, IV and Diploma) | $1500 | 3 months after commencement and registration of an apprenticeship/traineeship for certificates III, IV and Diploma level. |
| RECOMMENCEMENT | $750 | For employers recommencing out of trade certificate III or IV new apprentice. |
| RURAL & REGIONALSKILLS SHORTAGE | $1000 | 3 months after commencement and registration of an apprenticeship/traineeship in a certificate III and IV training package in an occupation defined as a skills shortage in a non metropolitan area. Note: must be eligible for a commencement incentive. |
| AUSTRALIAN SCHOOL BASED TRAINEESHIPS | $750 $750 | 3 months after commencement for employing a School-Based trainee at Certificate II level. For retaining a Certificate II level School-Based trainee on successful completion. |
| COMPLETION | $2500 | At the successful completion of a certificate III, IV or Diploma level of an apprenticeship/traineeship. |
| MATURE AGED WORKERS | $1500 | $750 at Commencement & $750 at Successful Completion to employers who employ a disadvantaged Australian Apprentice aged 45 years or more. |
| DECLARED DROUGHT AREA | $3000 | $1,500 at Commencement & $1,500 at Successful Completion for employers who employ a certificate II trainee and have been issued with an Exceptional Circumstances Drought Area Certificate. |
| INNOVATION - SPECIAL COMMENCEMENT | $1100 | For employers who employ an Australian Apprentice in an eligible innovation training package at Certificate III or IV level. |
| DISABLED AUSTRALIAN APPRENTICE WAGE SUPPORT (DAWS) | Up to $104.30 per week | For employers who employ an apprentice or trainee who is medically assessed as having a disability which impacts on their on the job duties. |
Support for Mid-Career Apprentices: Payments of $150 week in 1st year and $100 week in 2nd year to either employer or apprentice (aged 30 years or older) undertaking an apprenticeship in a skill shortage occupation.
In addition to the range of incentives for employers, financial assistance is available to assist apprentices and trainees.
- Living Away From Home Allowance (LAFHA) is paid for up to 36 months. A first year rate of $77.17 per week is applicable for up to 12 months with a second $38.59 per week available for a further 12 months and $25 per week available for a further 12mths. It is offered to 1st, 2nd & 3rd year apprentices or trainees who need to leave their parental/guardians home to take up or remain in their apprenticeship or traineeship.
- Disabled New Apprentice Wage Support (DNAWS), tutorial service and interpreter services for eligible apprentices and trainees.
- TOOLS FOR YOUR TRADE payment to eligible Australian Apprentices.
The new payment comprises of five tax exempt cash payments totaling $3800 paid over the duration of your apprenticeship.
The breakdown of the payments is as follows:
$800 after 3 months
$800 after 12 months
$800 after 24 months
$700 after 36 months
$700 payable on successful completion.
