Welcome to the Australian Apprenticeships Centre
What is an Apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is a full time or part time (minimum of 20 hours per week) employment based training program that provides an opportunity to learn all aspects of a trade.
Apprentices are contracted to an employer for a fixed period of time (normally 3-3.5 years, longer if part time). It includes a three month probationary period.
The training combines practical experience at work with compulsory training off the job with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
There are many apprenticeships to choose from.
A Trade Certificate is issued when an apprentice has:
- Achieved the relevant trade standards and competencies in the workplace
- Successfully completed the required "Off Job" technical training course
- Completed the full term of the apprenticeship (unless a reduction of term has been granted through the Apprentice achieving all required skill levels earlier).
